Pastor’s Letter, April 9th, 2017: Celebrate Palm Sunday and Holy Week.

Dear Parishioners,

This Palm Sunday which is also called Passion Sunday sets the tone for this coming week, Holy Week. It is the week of Our Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. The Liturgies this Holy Week will quite literally make these events of our Lord’s life “come alive.”

Join us this Holy Thursday at the Last Supper. Twelve parishioners will have their feet washed, reminding us that Jesus came to serve and we are a servant community. After Holy Thursday Mass of Our Lord’s Supper there will be a procession to an adoration chapel set up in the pastoral center. Come spend an hour with the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane. The altar of repose will be open until Midnight.

Join us on Good Friday at Mount Calvary. At 3PM there will be Stations of the Cross and recitation of the Rosary, and at 7PM will be the celebration of the Passion of the Lord. At this service we will read the Lord’s Passion and venerate the Holy Cross, “behold the wood of the cross.”

Join us the night of Easter Vigil around the Paschal fire where we will bless and light the Easter Candle. The priest prays this solemn blessing as he marks the Easter Candle: “Christ yesterday and today, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. All time belongs to him and all the ages. To him be glory and power through every age and forever. Amen.” The lighted Easter Candle is then carried into a dark Church to the proclamation of “The light of Christ.”

It is at the Easter Vigil that our Catechumens will be baptized and Candidates will come into full communion with the Catholic Church. Come and support them.

What a gift, joy and blessing to be celebrating these most ancient Christian customs and liturgy here at Holy Rosary knowing that we are united with the entire Church around the world.

Come and join us for these solemn and festive days.

In Christ,

Father Vincent
